This year Room 12B have been studying Te Reo. Last term we recorded body parts in Maori so here is mine:
My Inquiry Reflection
Last term room 12B were learning about the human machine here is a short reflection about what I have learnt:
What is Diabetes?
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease that affects the pancreas, a part of the stomach that produces a chemical called Insulin, which controls a chemical called glucose which is how much sugar is in your blood so if there is too much in your blood, it will clot then you will die.
Diabetes vary in the types. Type one is what you get when you are a child and the pancreas instantly stops working and you cannot cure it. Type 2 is what you get when you are an adult by eating too much junk and your pancreas eventually stops working, while Type 3 diabetes is when you are pregnant and your brain is resistant to insulin.
Diabetes also affects the heart with heartburn and or other things you get from eating too much sugar. Approximately 11,000 people in New Zealand have Type 1 Diabetes.Approximately 105,000 people in New Zealand are known to have Type 2 Diabetes and it is estimated that nearly the same number have undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes.

Electives Term Two
In electives I made a electronic book safe and what it does is it has circuits in in rigged to an alarm so if it is turned on and opened it makes a loud buzz like noise.
Explanation Writing: The Circulatory System
This term room 12B have been working on the human body,we did explanation writing so here is mine:
Circulatory System
Did you know that your heart is a muscle?,Did you know that it pumps your blood around your body?,Did you know your Circulatory System is including the muscles, veins and more,Did you know that there are 4 parts that make up your blood? Well lets look at that now…red and white blood cells are produced by your bones, but that is another article, this article is explaining how it works so without further ado it begins!
What is your circulatory system?
The circulatory system is your blood system including your heart, arteries veins and your blood.Basically it pumps blood through your body.Your blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma.red blood cells is the part which carries the oxygen around, white blood cells fight infections,Platelets are Cells that help you stop bleeding when you get a cut or graze, plasma carries nutrients hormones and proteins through the body.
What is your Heart?
Your heart is actually a muscle that pumps blood around your body, there are two different parts of the heart, one pumps the blood to your lungs and the other part pumps blood from your heart.Your heart is not actually a love heart shape its more of a Peary kind of shape here is a picture from the Kids Health website:
,any way that's not the point, the point is that the heart is a very important origin, you have heard of people dying of heart attacks the way they get them is being old or eating badly.Anyway the heart is as big as your clenched fist yet it pumps blood around the whole body, which is pretty amazing!
How does it work?
Basically blood is produced inside your bones then it “hitchhikes” the other blood into the heart and then the heart pumps it into the lungs, then the blood picks up the oxygen,it also comes back into the heart, why you ask?,because then the blood moves it to the origins which require the oxygen and food including the brain.
Why do we have a circulatory system?
We have the circulatory system because we need the nutrients from what we eat and produce all around our body to spread to other organs like the brain for example, if we did not have this system we would die when we were very young unless you get hooked up to a machine. You don’t want to be hooked up to a machine all your life.
So now I hope you have learnt a thing or two about the circulatory system and how it works,if you need any more information I have a link to Kids Health HERE,
